You may have heard of the term "quiet quitting" in recent months, especially in corporate America, but what does it mean, and is it a real trend? So let's talk about it because many of us do it and don't even realize it.

What is Quiet Quitting?

Quiet quitting refers to doing the minimum requirements of one's job and putting in no more time, effort, or enthusiasm than absolutely necessary¹. Quiet quitters are not actively looking for a new job but are also not committed to their current one. They are simply waiting for a better opportunity or their situation to improve.

What Causes Quiet Quitting?

There are many possible reasons why someone might become a quiet quitter. Some of the common ones are:

- Lack of recognition or appreciation. When people feel their work is not valued or acknowledged by their managers or peers, they may lose motivation and interest.
- Lack of growth or development. When people feel that they are not learning new skills or advancing in their careers, they become bored and frustrated with their job.
- Lack of flexibility. Not having control over their work schedule, environment, or tasks, they become resentful and dissatisfied with their job.

How to Deal with Quiet Quitting?

Quiet quitting is happening more frequently because people are starting to realize their worth, and if jobs don't change, then we will. Here are some tips on how to internally with quiet quitting with it:

- Speak up and ask for what you need. If you feel something needs to be added or corrected in your work situation, please voice your concerns or requests to your manager or HR.
- Seek out and pursue your passions. If you feel that your work does not match your interests or goals, look for ways to incorporate them into your job or find other outlets outside of work.
- Take care of yourself and your well-being. If you feel that your work is affecting your health or happiness negatively, take steps to improve your physical, mental, and emotional well-being by exercising, meditating,
socializing, or relaxing.
